Thomas Guggeis gives his debut with the Munich Philharmonic

The prelude to Wagner's Liebesrank opera begins with the most famous chord in opera history, the notorious »Tristan chord«, a dissonant harmony that influenced all of modern music like a primordial cell. Richard Strauss could not escape this either, either as an opera composer or as the creator of over 42 orchestral songs. As an aftertaste of last year's Strauss focus, the Munich Philharmonic will present a selection of his compositions for voice with orchestral accompaniment. Béla Bartók, the progenitor of Hungarian modernism, found it difficult to gain a foothold in exile in America. His "Concerto for Orchestra" describes his inner conflict between the old and the new world. The young conductor from Lower Bavaria, THOMAS GUGGEIS, will take the podium for the first time. He has been Staatskapellmeister in Berlin since 2020. From the 2023/24 season he will take over as General Music Director of the Frankfurt Opera. (Source: mphil.de)
