Tanja-Ariane Baumgartner in the world premiere of "The Jewess of Toledo" at the Semperoper Dresden.

TANJA ARIANE BAUMGARTNER is one of the leading mezzo-sopranos of our time and will sing one of the major roles in the world premiere of “Die Jüdin von Toledo” at the Semperoper Dresden. With her role portraits of Fricka (Rheingold/Walküre), her brilliant Cassandre (Les Troyens), her Klytämnestra (Elektra) and Amme (Die Frau ohne Schatten) and her spectacular Ortrud (Lohengrin), she has sung her way to the top of the dramatic mezzo-sopranos at the most important international houses and festivals.

One of the particular highlights of the 2023/24 opera season is certainly the world premiere of the eagerly awaited opera »Die Jüdin von Toledo«, commissioned by the Saxon State Opera. The score for this extraordinary work of music theatre was written by Detlev Glanert to a libretto by Hans-Ulrich Treichel.

The premiere will take place at the Semperoper on 10 February 2024 in a production by Canadian director Robert Carsen. Jonathan Darlington will conduct a star-studded cast featuring Heidi Stober as Rahel and Christoph Pohl as the King of Castile joined by Lilly Jørstad, Tanja Ariane Baumgartner, Markus Marquardt and Aaron Pegram.
