Elza van den Heever and Tanja Ariane Baumgartner in Frau ohne Schatten under the baton of Christian Thielemann at the Vienna State Opera

In October, Elza van den Heever will return to the Vienna State Opera, taking on one of her new signature roles: the Empress in Strauss' Die Frau ohne Schatten. This follows her overwhelming success in this role during last season's performances at the Easter Festival in Baden-Baden.

Tanja Ariane Baumgartner will also be seen in the role of the Nurse under the direction of Christian Thielemann. Tanja Ariane Baumgartner is one of the leading mezzo-sopranos of our time. With her portrayals of Fricka (Rheingold/Walküre), her powerful Cassandre (Les Troyens), her Klytämnestra (Elektra), Nurse (Die Frau ohne Schatten), and her spectacular Ortrud (Lohengrin), she has sung her way to the top of dramatic mezzo-sopranos at the most important international houses and festivals.
