Thomas Guggeis conducts the Wiener Philharmoniker and makes his debut with the Cleveland Orchestra

THOMAS GUGGEIS conducts the Wiener Philharmoniker in a programme of J. S. Bach, Händel and Mozart in Salzburg for Mozart Week. He is joined by soprano Sonya Yoncheva who sings arias from Händel’s Giulio Cesare in Egitto.

“Thomas Guggeis already thrilled the audience at the Mozart Week 2023 when he took over the conducting for Daniel Barenboim. Together with the celebrated Bulgarian soprano Sonya Yoncheva, the young conductor returns to the podium of the Wiener Philharmoniker as general music director of the Frankfurt Opera with Bach, Handel and Mozart.”*

Performance on 29th January 2025

In early February, Guggeis makes his debut with the Cleveland Orchestra in February conducting R. Strauss, Dutilleux and Ravel.

“With its instantly recognizable opening, made famous in 2001: A Space Odyssey, Richard Strauss’s Also sprach Zarathustra sounds like the dawn of a new world, a paradigm shift of cosmic proportions. The Cleveland Orchestra debut of conductor Thomas Guggeis ventures toward further worlds in Henri Dutilleux’s Tout un monde lointain… — featuring Principal Cellist Mark Kosower — and Ravel’s delectably decadent La valse.”**

Performances on 7th/8th/9th February
