Philippe Jordan conducts "Macbeth" at the Salzburg Festival
The Salzburg Festival welcomes PHILIPPE JORDAN to the podium this year, as he has agreed at short notice to take over the musical direction of this year's new production of Giuseppe Verdi's Macbeth, directed by Krzysztof Warlikowskii.
Philippe Jordan has been Music Director of the Vienna State Opera since 2020, where he has conducted, among other things, nine new productions from Mozart to Alban Berg. Before that, he was Music Director of the Opéra National de Paris and Chief Conductor of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. Philippe Jordan has performed at all major opera houses and festivals and with all major orchestras in the world.
He first appeared at the Salzburg Festival in 2004 with the new opera production of Mozart's Così fan tutte and then in 2013 with the concert performance of Wagner's Rienzi, the last of the Tribunes as well as in orchestral concerts conducting the Vienna Philharmonic, the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra and the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg.
The premiere of Giuseppe Verdi's Macbeth will take place on July 29, with five further performances until August 24, 2023. ( Source: Salzburg Festival )
