Lydia Steier directs "Le Nozze di Figaro" at the Hanover State Opera
Lydia Steier returns to the Hanover State Opera for a production of Mozart's opera Le Nozze di Figaro. In addition, costume designer Alfred Mayerhofer and set designer Momme Hinrichs were hired for the production.
The beginning of her career as a director was marked by Turandot (Busoni) in 2009 in connection with Leoncavallo's I Pagliacci at the German National Theater in Weimar. Important works of recent seasons include the double recital Oedipus Rex - Iolanta at the Frankfurt Opera, The Rake's Progress at the Theater Basel, Lohengrin at the Los Angeles Opera, The Magic Flute at the Salzburg Festival, La Fanciulla del West at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden Berlin and Carmen at the Cologne Opera. In February 2019 she staged the widely acclaimed world premiere of Michael Wertmüller's Diodati.unendlich in Basel. Lydia Steier was nominated twice for the German Theater Prize DER FAUST, and her production of Karlheinz Stockhausen's Thursday from 'Licht' at Theater Basel was voted the 2016 performance of the year in the Opernwelt magazine's critics' survey.
