KIRILL PETRENKO on tour with the Berlin Philharmonic
Festival tour 2021: Salzburg, Lucerne, Paris
In 2021, the Berliner Philharmoniker and Chief Conductor Kirill Petrenko will embark on a festival tour immediately after the season opening in Berlin: As is traditional, this tour will take them to the Salzburg Festival and the Lucerne Festival. The tour will conclude with a guest performance at the Philharmonie Paris. The two programs subtly interweave the music of the Romantic and Modern periods. The first program will juxtapose Carl Maria von Weber's Oberon Overture and Paul Hindemith's Symphonic Metamorphoses; Franz Schubert's "Great" Symphony in C major, considered the epitome of a Romantic symphony, will also be performed. The second program will feature the music of Slavic composers, including Peter Tchaikovsky's Fantasy Overture "Romeo and Juliet" and Sergei Prokofiev's First Piano Concerto, as well as Josef Suk's tone poem "Pohádka létav" (A Summer's Tale). The soloist of the piano concerto is Anna Vinnitskaya, who accompanies the Berlin Philharmonic on tour for the first time.
