Emmanuel Tjeknavorian - Artist in Residence at the hr Sinfonieorchester

On November 10, Emmanuel Tjeknavorian will conduct his first concert as Artist in Residence with the hr Sinfonieorchester.

"Tchaikovsky's 'Pathétique' is as mystical as it is heartbreaking, as poetic as it is exuberant, as light as it is dark," says the young conductor Emmanuel Tjeknavorian. This symphonic legacy is juxtaposed with a no less emotional counterpart from a composer who essentially set the tone in Hollywood. Miklós Rózsa provided the scores for epic film classics such as "Ben-Hur" and "El Cid," but also always composed for the concert hall. His viola concerto from 1979 doesn't deny the film music grandmaster, being powerful and courageous, thrilling, and catchy in equal measure. Incidentally, it was film music that first inspired the young Timothy Ridout, the soloist in this opening concert, to take up the viola: A teacher had played him a theme from "Harry Potter" on the viola, laying the foundation for a career as a soloist straight out of the script. The Strad magazine raved about Timothy Ridout, born in London in 1995, that the British violist was "a gift," his tone "warm and expressive." (Source: hr Symphony Orchestra )
