Baritone Erik van Heyningen is a member of Oper Frankfurt, where he attracted particular attention with his debuts as the Forester (Das schlaue Füchslein) and Guido in Mercadante's Francesca da Rimini.
Erik van Heyningen will once again be appearing in various roles in Frankfurt in the 2024/25 season. For example as Monterone (Rigoletto), Policeman (Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk), Grandfather in Reimann's L'invisible, Capellio in Rossini's Bianca e Falliero and Melisso in Handel's Alcina.
His other roles at Oper Frankfurt include Plumkett (The Merry Wives of Windsor) and Biterolf (Tannhäuser) and Elmiro (Rossini's Otello).
Erik van Heyningen was a member of the Opera Studio of the Vienna State Opera, where he attracted particular attention as Donner (Rheingold), Number One in Henze's Das verratene Meer and Littore/Tribune/Famigliare (Incoronazione di Poppea). At the Frankfurt Opera he made his debut with Angelotti (Tosca) and Sprecher (Zauberflöte). At the Tiroler Festspiele Erl he made a guest appearance as Guido (Francesca da Rimini).
At the St. Louis Opera he sang Simon Fenton (Emmeline), at the Michigan Opera Angelotti and at the Santa Fe Opera the Speaker. His roles at the Juilliard School included Leporello (Don Giovanni), Guglielmo (Così fan tutte) and Argante (Rinaldo). He was heard at the Spoleto Festival as Jochanaan (Salome) and at Pacific Opera as Escamillo (Carmen).
Erik van Heyningen's repertoire also includes roles such as Figaro and Conte (Le Nozze di Figaro), Don Giovanni, Kurwenal (Tristan und Isolde), Gunther (Götterdämmerung) and Balstrode (Peter Grimes).
Erik van Heyningen is the recipient of numerous prizes and awards, including the Barbara and Stanley Richman Memorial Award at the St. Louis Theatre, where he was also awarded the title of Richard Gaddes Festival Artist. In 2016, he won 1st prize in the Gerda Lissner Lieder and Song Competition; in 2017-2018, he was a member of the Michigan Opera Opera Studio; in 2018, he received the Mackay Family Grant at Santa Fe Opera; and in 2018-2020, he studied at the Juilliard School in New York.
