Adela Zaharia has made a name for herself internationally, particularly in the bel canto repertoire and as a Mozart interpreter, and has received rave reviews from audiences and the press alike.
In the 2024/25 season, Adela Zaharia will make her debut at the MET New York with Musetta (La Bohème). At the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, she will perform Lucia di Lammermoor. She will return to the Deutsche Oper Berlin with this role and as Violetta (La traviata). She will return to the Komische Oper Berlin as Donna Anna in the new production of Don Giovanni (Kirill Serebrennikov). Adela Zaharia is a regular guest at the Teatro Real Madrid, this season as Violetta (La traviata). She will also return to her former home at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf as Violetta.
Highlights of recent seasons have included Donna Anna in Paris, London, Madrid, Amsterdam and San Francisco, Lucia di Lammermoor at the Bavarian State Opera and the Deutsche Oper Berlin, La traviata at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Los Angeles and in Amsterdam, Gilda at the Teatro Real Madrid and Los Angeles and the world premiere of the 7 Deaths of Maria Callas by Marina Abramovic at the Bavarian State Opera. She was also invited back to the Bavarian State Opera as Angelica in Haydn's Orlando Paladino. Adela Zaharia caused a sensation with her role debuts as Elvira in a new production of I Puritani, in the title role of Maria Stuarda and Giulietta (I Capuleti e i Montecchi) at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf. She first appeared at the Hamburg State Opera and the Frankfurt Opera as Konstanze (Abduction from the Seraglio). Adela Zaharia made a guest appearance in Japan as Pamina with the Komische Oper Berlin.
Concert highlights include her debut at the BBC Proms with the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the world premiere of Iain Bell's Aurora, whose mad scene from A Harlot's Progress she presented at the Enescu Festival. A concert of Mozart arias alongside Placido Domingo took her to Prague, as well as guest appearances as soloist with Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Barcelona and Moscow. She made her debuts in Barrie Kosky's production of The Magic Flute at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the Bolshoi Theatre, the Edinburgh International Festival and the Grand Theatre Shanghai.
In 2012 Adela Zaharia was awarded the Grand Prix of the Haricleea Darclée International Competition.
