The young South Korean soprano has recently been attracting the attention of opera houses and concert presenters worldwide. She starts the current season with her return to the Metropolitan Opera as Amor in Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice. Further engagements include her portrayal of Dschainah Lylo in Paul Abraham’s Dschainah and Gilda (Rigoletto) at the Komische Oper Berlin. She will also return to the Bayerische Staatsoper and participate in Marina Abramovic’ 7 Deaths of Maria Callas, where she will portray Violetta Valéry and sing La comtesse Adèle (Le Comte Ory) with the Münchner Rundfunkorchester conducted by Ivan Repušić. She will conclude the season with the world premiere of Huang Ruo’s M. Butterfly as Comrade Chin. Concert invitations will take her to Buenos Aires, New York and Washington.
Highlights of the last two seasons include her return to the Glyndebourne Festival as Rosina in Rossini’s Barbiere di Siviglia, her role and house debut as Musetta in Barrie Kosky’s new production of La Bohème at the Komische Oper Berlin and her debut at the Bayerische Staatsoper as Despina in Così fan tutte. As part of her final year in the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program she sang Barbarina (Le Nozze di Figaro) and Taumännchen in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel. She made her Müncher Rundfunkorchester debut as Almira in Rossini’s Sigismondo and sang Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem with St. Thomas Church Concert Series conducted by Music Director Daniel Hyde.
Other recent opera engagements include Ms. Park’s Met Opera debut as the First Wood Nymph in Dvořák’s Rusalka, her Glyndebourne Festival debut as Najade in Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos and Juliette (Roméo et Juliette) with the Korea National Opera in Seoul. She has also appeared in concerts with both the New York Philharmonic and the Los Angeles Opera. Among the distinguished conductors she has worked with are Donald Runnicles, Constantin Trinks and Cornelius Meister.
Ms. Park has received awards from numerous competitions, including the Gerda Lissner Foundation International Competition, the Montreal International Musical Competition and Placido Domingo’s International Operalia competition amongst others.
She graduated from The Juilliard School in New York City with an Artist Diploma in Opera Studies, a prestigious two-year advanced training program, after earning her Master’s degree there in 2015.
