Highlights of Elza van den Heever’s 2018/19 season include concerts in South Africa, Lohengrin (Elsa) at the Wiener Staatsoper, Elektra (Chrysothemis) at the Lyric Opera Chicago, Clemenza di Tito (Vitellia) at the Metropolitan Opera New York, Norma (title role) at the Oper Frankfurt, as well as further concerts with Simone Young in Lausanne, with Bertrand de Billy in Berlin, and Kirill Petrenko in Bregenz.

In the 2017/18 season, Ms. van den Heever’s engagements led her to Oper Frankfurt with Il trovatore (Leonora) and Norma, to the Metropolitan Opera with Elektra (Chrysothemis) and to the Opernhaus Zürich with Fidelio (Leonore), as well as to Helsinki and Monte Carlo for concerts under the baton of Simone Young. Highlights of her 2016/17 season included her debut at the Wiener Staatsoper as Ellen Orford in Peter Grimes, productions of Norma in both Dallas and Toronto, as well as Idomeneo (Elettra) at the Metropolitan Opera, the concert version of Ernani (Elvira) at Oper Frankfurt, and Alcina (title role) in Santa Fe.

In addition to her 2015/26 concerts in Toulouse, with the WDR Symphony Orchestra in Köln, the Beethovenorchester Bonn and the Yomiuri Symphony Orchestra in Tokio, Ms. van den Heever sang Don Carlos (Elisabeth) in Bordeaux and Strasbourg, as well as Maria Stuarda (Elisabetta) at the Metropolitan Opera, Il trittico (Giorgetta) at Oper Frankfurt, and Fidelio (Leonore) at the Caramoor Festival. In the 2014/15 season she made her debut in Norma (title role) at the Opéra National de Bordeaux.

In the 2013/2014 season, Ms. van den Heever made her brilliant debut at the English National Opera as Ellen (Peter Grimes), which she also sang in San Francisco. During the 2012/13 season she gave her role debuts as Elisabetta (Maria Stuarda) and as Elektra (Idomeneo) at Oper Frankfurt, followed by the Duchess Hélène in The Sicilian Vespers. That very same season Ms. van den Heever also made her house debut as Elisabetta (Maria Stuarda) at the Metropolitan Opera, where she returned in 2014/15 as Donna Anna (Don Giovanni).

Ms. van den Heever was an ensemble member of Oper Frankfurt from the 2008/09 season until the end of 2012/13 season. During this period she performed such roles as: Desdemona (Otello), Antonia (Les Contes d’Hoffmann), Elisabeth de Valois (Don Carlo), Elsa of Brabant (Lohengrin), Anna Bolena in the title role in a concert version, Vitellia (La clemenza di Tito), after her brilliant debut as Giorgetta in Puccini’s Il trittico. Since then, she has been one of the most sought-after sopranos of her generation.

Ms. van den Heever’s already expansive career has brought her to the stages of many of the world’s leading opera houses and concert halls such as the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich (Lohengrin, Don Giovanni), the Staatsoper Hamburg (Don Giovanni, I Lombardi), the Opéra National de Paris (Così fan tutte), the Opéra National de Bordeaux (Ariadne auf Naxos, Il Trovatore, Alcina, Anna Bolena), the Opernhaus Zürich (Lohengrin), the Theater an der Wien (Der Freischütz), the Konzerthaus Wien (Il tabarro in concert version under the baton of Bertrand de Billy), the Dallas Opera (Così fan tutte) and the Lyric Opera of Chicago (Rinaldo), as well as the Canadian Opera in Toronto (Il Trovatore).

Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, Ms. van den Heever is now a French citizen and makes her home in Bordeaux. Her first major role was Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), which she sang in 2007 at the San Francisco Opera. She was a finalist in the 2003 Pacific Regional Metropolitan National Council Auditions, and winner of the International Wagner Competition of the Seattle Opera in 2008.
